How an Oz Lotto draw works
Every Tuesday night, ten balls come out of a barrel numbered 1 to 47. Lotterywest’s game page puts it plainly: the first seven drawn are the winning numbers, and the last three are the supplementary numbers. Your game is the seven numbers on your ticket.
The division you win depends on how many of your seven match. In WA, one game costs $1.45 and the minimum entry is one game, according to Lotterywest’s price list. The WA Rules call each draw a “mechanical, equally random selection” of those ten balls.
The seven winning combinations
Here is what each division needs, with the odds per game and each division’s share of the prize pool. The figures are Lotterywest’s, from its Oz Lotto page and its 2026 Game Permit.

Reading down the table:
- Division 1: all seven winning numbers. Supplementaries play no part.
- Division 2: six winning numbers plus one supplementary.
- Division 3: six winning numbers, with your seventh number not drawn at all.
- Division 4: five winning numbers plus at least one supplementary.
- Division 5: five winning numbers.
- Division 6: four winning numbers, with or without supplementaries.
- Division 7: three winning numbers plus at least one supplementary.
Lotterywest’s results feed words the supplementary divisions as “+ 1 or 2 or 3 Supplementary Numbers”. One supplementary is enough, and a second or third doesn’t lift you into a higher division.
Here’s how that works on a real draw. Draw 1701 on 22 September 2026 drew 4, 7, 14, 21, 35, 36 and 41, with 20, 26 and 32 as supplementaries.
A game holding 4, 7, 21 and 35 had four winning numbers: Division 6. A game holding 4, 14, 36 and 26 had three winning numbers and a supplementary: Division 7. The order the balls came out makes no difference to your ticket.
What the supplementary numbers do
Supplementaries count only in Divisions 2, 4 and 7, and they never stand in for a winning number. Four winning numbers win Division 6 on their own. Three winning numbers need a supplementary to win anything; without one, the game pays nothing.
That makes Division 7 the smallest win in Oz Lotto: three winning numbers and one supplementary, at 1 in 71 per game. Across all seven divisions, Lotterywest puts the odds of any prize at 1 in 51 per game. That’s the maths, not a mood: over many games, about one in 51 wins something.
Oz Lotteries sells Oz Lotto games online for Tuesday’s draw as an authorised reseller of The Lottery Corporation, so every game you buy there is judged on the same seven divisions.

How the prize pool is split
Lotterywest’s 2026 Game Permit sends 60.00% of Oz Lotto’s gross subscriptions to prizes. Of that, 55.50% is the prize pool for each draw and 4.50% goes to a reserve for additional or promotional prizes. The pool is then cut into the fixed shares in the table above.
Those shares explain why the lower divisions matter. Division 7 takes 31.80% of the pool and Division 6 takes 19.80%, together more than half. Division 1 takes 40.00%, and Divisions 2 to 5 share the remaining 8.40%.
Each division’s share is split equally between its winning entries, so more winners means a smaller dividend each. In our archive, every dividend since January 2024 equals the division’s pool divided by its winners.
Draw 1580, 28 May 2024, shows it at the top: three entries shared Division 1 and each received $13,333,333.34, dividends as published by Lotterywest. At the other end, draw 1701 on 22 September 2026 had 162,256 winning entries in Division 7, and 20,332 of them were in WA.
Jackpot and Prize Boost
Division 1 starts at $4 million and grows with each draw it isn’t won, according to Lotterywest’s game guide effective 14 September 2026. In our archive, Division 1 was won in 37 of the 143 draws from 2 January 2024 to 22 September 2026.
The largest pool in that stretch was draw 1616 on 4 February 2025: $100 million, won by a single entry. The Lottery Corporation’s 2025 annual report calls it the game’s largest offer since 2012.
Prize Boost is the other moving part. Lotterywest’s guide says Prize Boost events lift Division 2 to 7 prizes by 25% to 30%, whether or not Division 1 is won. We haven’t found a published calendar for these events.
Typical dividends in 2026

Claiming a prize
In WA, Lotterywest pays prizes up to $500 at any retailer if you hold a physical ticket. Online and app winnings go straight to your e-wallet or nominated account. Larger prizes are claimed at Lotterywest Head Office in Subiaco or by post.
Division 1 prizes are claimed at Head Office and go through a 14-day validation period. You have 12 months from the draw date to claim. Outside WA, the claim rules of the seller you bought from apply.

What do you need to win Oz Lotto division 7?
Three winning numbers plus at least one supplementary number. Lotterywest puts the odds at 1 in 71 per game. Three winning numbers without a supplementary don’t win a prize.
Does 4 numbers win anything in Oz Lotto?
Yes. Four winning numbers win Division 6, with or without a supplementary, at odds of 1 in 182 per game according to Lotterywest’s Oz Lotto page.
When is the Oz Lotto draw?
Every Tuesday night. Lotterywest closes sales at 6:00 pm AWST, which is 8:00 pm AEST, or 9:00 pm AEDT in NSW, Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania from 4 October. The numbers go up on our Oz Lotto results page once Lotterywest publishes them.
How do I check my Oz Lotto ticket?
Match your seven numbers against the winning numbers and supplementaries on our results page, then find your division in the table above. In WA, Lotterywest’s in-store checker reads the ticket’s barcode, and its app checks online and registered tickets.
Are Oz Lotto winnings taxed?
Recreational gambling winnings are not taxed in Australia (ATO ruling IT 2655). The exception the ATO describes is someone carrying on a business of betting or gambling.
Should I buy from The Lott or a reseller?
The Lott runs the national games in every state except WA, where Lotterywest sells them. Oz Lotteries is an authorised reseller of The Lottery Corporation, but it doesn’t sell to WA or Queensland residents. In WA, online tickets come from Lotterywest, including through oz.lotterywest.com.
